nice tune

to start the night

Inflammatus et accensus…………..Be to me, O Virgin, nigh,
Per Te, Virgo, sim defensus……….Lest in flames I burn and die,
In die iudicii………………………….In His awful Judgment day.
Fac me cruce custodiri,…………….By in Thy Cross may I be guarded
morte Christi praemuniri,………….Meritless – yet be rewarded
confoveri gratia……………………..Though Thy grace. O living Way.

this (above) is my favorite version.
another version available on youtube that i enjoy listening to:

this next one is nice, i really like the orchestra sound also, but overall a bit too fast and big…

Given the content, i’d love to see this performed in an old church with no clapping afterward, sort of like good friday where you’re asked to quietly leave church (back in the days when i was still going to church…) I wonder why it’s not performed often here in the US. I’ve seen this live only once at Longy school of music some years ago, and the singers were smiling and very cheerfully singing, conductor was jumping up and down conducting, and crowd wildly clapping at the end. quite strange.

anyhow, here’s the version i own and love very much (copied from music library back when i was still a poor student):
