random pix

since the arrival of digital cameras and big storage space, it seems we take tens of thousands of pictures only to store them away. i’ve been spending the last 2 days cleaning up my hard drive and finding some pix didn’t remember i had. thought i share them here, else i won’t know of their existence until probably 6-7 years from now when it’s time to clean up again…  some of the pix are not mine, in which case there’s a (c) thingy next to it.

moon rise on the Charles: i’m always fascinated by the lighting on the river, both during sunrise and moonrise.  for any camera, my first test would be at the river in low light:

series of shots from my favorite movie: an adaptation of Shakespeare‘s “King Lear” , japanese style.  the scenes from the movie are beautifully taken at the various castles in Japan, and the strategies are very similar to (chinese) chess

I’m a big fan of the sport. if there’s 1 sport i wish i could play, this would be it. in any case, did anyone else watch the semifinal between Germany-USA back in 2003? The US team was favorite, came in with confidence. the Germans (as we all know are the experts in playing brick-wall defense :-)) managed to scored a goal in the 9th minute from Kerstin Garefrekes’ header via a corner (she’s very tall, 1,90m+). The entire match then took place on the German side of the field as USA attacked relentlessly looking for an equalizer. In the 80+min or something, Germany scored 2 counter-attack goals and won the match 3-0 (might have been 4-0). There were lots of discussion among the US fans that Germany was trying to pad the score (not nice in their opinion). What the hell i say. any goal you can score, you do! I was a nervous wreck watching the match, a die-hard German fan 🙂

These two deserve their own post. very touching event at the closing ceremony of the 1980 summer olympics. Since most western countries boycotted this event, only us communists got to see cute touchy misha flying leaving for the sky.
