should i be worried?

apparently there’s a hurricane coming our way. current condition:

current condition, 13:25h, 27-aug-2011, view from office

apparently it’s strong enough to make several states declare emergency, all airports and subway systems shut down here & in new york (just learned this bit from boston.com). and more apparently, according to a colleague just across the hall here, stores are emptied of flash lights and water jugs. so it’s quite possible we lose electricity for a few days (eeks, better get this damn paper done before then!!!!).

So, the last time this happened was quite a few years ago, some big ass hurricane hit Florida and made its way up the east coast. by the time it got to Boston, the strength was way downgraded to just a storm, and we got heavy-duty horizontal rain for 3 consecutive days. super impressive. will set up my camera if rain arrives at high angle again. meanwhile, things are quiet here (as well as in NY where few friends are updating via fb), we’re all waiting.

Anyhow, the reason for the title? the problem is that the news media always make everything sound like the end of the world is near, you never know for sure what to believe. truth be told, i haven’t read/seen the news at all, until 1/2 hr ago, and now am worried 🙂 . At least i got my bowl of phở and boba milk tea for the day :-D. and w/o electricity, i should be drinking the rest of that bún măng broth little sister made last month, the batch that’s sitting frozen in freezer currently.

ok, off i go to viscious paper editing, to a bit of Händel’s Storm track (from Israel in Egypt):

ps- ah, the rain has arrived…

    Hiya An,
I know… The media do tend to overhype stuff… Still, stay away from low ground and rivers (and be careful around glass windows) and keep good supply of water and emergency kit and you should be fine, I think. The water is pretty cool off the Boston coast, isn’t it? Hopefully this thing will turn out not as damaging as the hype. 🙂

    Cheerio from steamy California,

Stay safe, Dr T. Perhaps you can give the rest of us a commentary like your football games? The photo is threatening but magnificent.

ah, good morning all. it’s been downgraded to a tropical storm (very warm and nice here i must add). so, some tree branches are blowing outside the window, similar to in this clip here when Maika got new energy from her spaceship ;-), and it’s not horizontal rain… this warm semi-heavy rain reminds me of vietnam actually.

Glad to hear it, Dr. T. Does that mean life as normal for you today or is the city still taking precautions?
