music for friday

ze hiiiiiiiiiippogriff! ❤ ❤
Note the orchestra!! and theorbos strumming! It was clear and energetic like this on our first night (not under cover). We all agreed Lucia Cirillo rocked in this role, she was really having fun too.

so cute! I now associate this aria with the hippogriff. Yes, Cirillo sounds really good in this role and the more evil the better as far as Alcina is concerned 😉

i was thinking about that! that this role’s arias are really shining, not quite “introverted” like the bin man’s

      • dehggial says:

yes, and in this aria you can feel how comfortable with the tessitura and whatnot she is. I do have to go back to her bin man and try to figure out what the problem is.

i sat through her bin man the other day ;-), too introverted it seems.. either that or SM and DG really outshined everyone.. was grinning the whole time.. but no, i think it’s the aria.. may be the music there was more subtle.. for example, if you even listen to Statira’s arias, not a lot of flourish.. but she put much more phrasing + color in. I think for Cirillo perhaps not as much color variation?

me sink the music is lovely. need a better sound file.

        • thả diều says:

no no dear, sound is perfect. these are baroque instruments dear, very earthy, not sharp and loud like modern instruments. Lots of guitar-like (theorbos), harpsichord, wooden flutes, and animal-gut strings.

my speakers have degraded, can barely hear much :((( the video posted under contraltos Ruggiero & Medoro ftw i could hear fine, but with this recording it’s as if i have a cotton balls in my ears :(((

          • thả diều says:

oh how strange! jeah may be it’s the sound card.

          • idlehouse says:

lemme show this to Timmy and see if he likes.

        • thả diều says:

(and the earthy warm sound from them instruments allow the singers to not have to shout . so you get these baroque and early music singers who sing a lot less loud but much more flexible and descriptive. when instruments too loud then they cant afford to singn soft = end up a shouting match w/o fine details 😉 )
