march 2011, vivalavoce highlights

The schedule was out 3 days ago, but i’m quite delayed in posting. here are some hightlights from vivalavoce. (It seems they have in their library lots of recordings with Anne Sofie von Otter, Agnes Baltsa, Marias Callas, Placido Domingo, etc. I was curious why I don’t see many recordings with Barbara Bonney for example. Did she not have many opera recordings?) They’re also repeating many recordings, possibly due to not having the budget to buy new ones. all the same, truly lovely music. let’s hope their budget won’t shrink too much next year due to the proposed cut fundings. speaking of which, i should go over there and donate some.

March 5
Jean-Philippe Rameau: Les Indes Galantes

Claron McFadden [Hébé; Zima] | Jérôme Corréas [Bellone; Alidoro] | Isabelle Poulenard [L’Amour; Phani] | Nicolas Rivneq [Osman; Adario] | Miriam Ruggeri [Émilie] | Howard Crook [Valère; Damon] | Bernard Delétré [Huascar; Don Alvar] | Jean-Paul Fouchécourt [Don Carlos; Tacmas] | Sandrine Piau [Zaïre] | Noémi Rime [Fatime] | Les Arts Florissants Chœurs et Orchestre | William Christie (conductor)

March 6
Ludwig van Beethoven: Fidelio (i recently fell in love with the recording of Nina Stemme and Jonas Kaufmann of this work)

Hildegard Behrens (soprano) [Leonore] | Peter Hofmann (tenor) [Florestan] | Hans Sotin [Rocco] | Theo Adam (bass) [Don Pizarro] | Sona Ghazarian [Marzelline] | David Kuebler [Jaquino] | Gwynne Howell [Don Fernando] | Robert Johnson [Erster Gefangener] | Philip Kraus [Zweiter Gefangener] | Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus | Sir Georg Solti (conductor)

it looks like one way or another, i’ll miss the first act, aaargh . too many cool events around. first i found out there’s a FREE 2.5hr salsa class on this campus from 7-9.30pm. Then, at the same place, there’s this talk, which i think will end up going to. The capture button will be set in motion, but for sure i’ll show up at 9pm to catch the rose presentation and the rest.
